THE READING ELEPHANT BRINGS SMILES TO CHILDREN IN LAOS (page 8)

About a non-profit mobile library that is bringing books to children living in the remote areas of Laos. 

Game: Story Making – For English, level 2 – DOWNLOAD
Pairwork. To express creativity by upcycling familiar stories. Students roll dice to playfully construct a new story based on a mixture of elements from two favourite tales. 


NEW MRT IN PAKISTAN (page 10)

The Orange Line was recently opened in Lahore. While some commuters have welcomed it, others have not. This article examines the various reasons.

Poster: Use the Orange Line!– Art & English, level 2 – DOWNLOAD
Individual. To promote creative expression. Students are to come up with a poster for the Orange Line to convince people in Lahore to use the train service.

A How-to Guide– For English, level 3 – DOWNLOAD
Pairwork. To share knowhow in a usable format for children. Students write up a simple “How To” guide using a given template. ❖

Lullaby– For English & Art, level 3 – DOWNLOAD
Individual Work. To appreciate unique strengths of lullabies. The student (i) compares and contrasts two well-known lullabies (ii) responds to them (iii) creates a lullaby poster.

Infographic: Sleep for Health – For English & Art, level 2 – DOWNLOAD
Individual work. To express creativity through an infographic for educating peers. A worksheet to organise information for designing an infographic about sleep. ❖


HAIRY CRABS: MEAL OR MENACE? (page 21)

Invasive species such as hairy crabs in Europe are a threat to local wildlife there as they affect ecosystems — challenges to solving this problem and solutions that are working.

Pair work. To learn about invasive species in Singapore. Students unscramble words to discover the invasive species in Singapore and how they came about. ✪

COVID DELAYS GIVE ATHLETES A NEW CHANCE (page 22)

The 2020 Olympic Games and European Championships being postponed to 2021 turned out to be good news for some athletes. Gives four examples.

Individual. To perceive optimism as a choice. Questions to guide reflection on personal events that have been delayed or cancelled last year and what the bright side of each is. ❖
